Sugarland, Texas Area and Community Information
The city of Sugarland began with Stephen F. Austin’s land grant from the Mexican government. The area was once named “Oakland Plantation” after the forests of oak trees. However, the area acquired its current name from the significance of the sugar industry to the local economy. The first Sugarland TX real estate was developed into sugar plantations. The Imperial Sugar Company once owned most of the real estate in Sugarland and built Sugarland homes for employees. The town was incorporated in 1959. As the area became more affluent, many luxurious Sugarland homes were constructed on waterfront properties. Most Sugarland home buyers are college-educated professionals servicing Texas’s significant energy industry. Today, Sugarland is one of the fastest growing cities in all of Texas. Sugarland real estate is in high demand from individuals eager to make their new home in this prosperous community.
